An Eastbound... Heading West

UP's daily Herington-Topeka manifest, the MHNTP only has two questionable options to get from the ex-RI Topeka Sub into the ex-UP yard on the Kansas Sub.

On this day, this primarily eastbound train was routed west at SJ Jct. and over BOTH Kansas Sub mains for its last few miles... before shoving back eastbound into the yard. This is all while it creaks around some respectably sharp curves at the Kansas River bridge. Oof.

Anyway, the upside is that when they do run this way, you've got a consistent afternoon westbound that often runs with interesting power. On this day, I didn't get that, but oh well. On the other hand, you can see some of the many stored UP units in the background of this scene, which makes for an interesting view.
