Tulsan Ghost in Ottawa

OR "She Doesn't Even Go Here!"

On a Sunday afternoon visit to Ottawa University (KS) for a brass band performance, I spent some time in the town exploring the town's interesting railroad past. Here, I was able to track down the location of this April, 1971 photo taken by Wayne Copple, that I sourced off of Trainorders.

By this point, Santa Fe's "Tulsan" had less than a month to go, with Amtrak's arrival in May of that year. This is train no. 212, which was due into Ottawa at 11:00, with Kansas City Union Station just 70 minutes down the line.

Quite a bit of this line still exists between Tulsa and Lawrence, KS, but unfortunately, the street running here in Ottawa has been gone since the 80's. The SKOL operates much of this line, to the south, while the (let's call it) the Midland Railway runs from Ottawa Jct. (just north of here) up to Baldwin City.
