Charing Cross footbridge
When the M8 motorway was cut through Glasgow in about 1970 several associated concrete structures were included in the grand plan. On my first visit to Glasgow in 1971 this bridge was clearly intended for all pedestrians. On a later visit I found the road planners, acting in an unusually humane manner, had accepted that most pedestrians avoided the bridge and were dashing across the roads, so two pedestrian crossings were provided.
The columns have been decorated.
