Kate " D F 8 born Oxon Bloxham
Maud A, " D F 6 born Warwicks Coventry
Arthur " S M 4 " " "
Francis George " S M 1 born Berks Crookham.
So it would seem that this photograph was taken 1880 onwards.
Note that by the 1891 census his name has been changed to Arthur Solomon DENNESS. He was still living at the same address and was a Photographer. Classed as neither employer or employed
He died qtr Sep 1894 in Newbury district age just 47 years - name given as Arthur Solomon DENNESS.
According to the Reading Mercury of 17th November 1894 (www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk) he was also the groundsman at Crookham Golf Club.
According to the Reading Mercury of 8th Sep 1894
Mr DENNESS had been playing in a cricket match at Thatcham when he complained of chest pains which worsened when he got home and he died unexpectedly probably of heart disease. "The deceased, who was a man of genial disposition, and apparently in the best of health, was much respected in the neighbourhood. He was a photographer and since of the arrival of the cavalry at Churn had been taking groups of the soldiers"
Re the date of the photograph, note that Arthur was living in Reading at the time of the 1871 census and was working as an attorney's clerk.

Elizabeth " W M F 38 born Uppingham Rutland
1881 census
146-147 Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berks
Elizabeth LANCASTER H Wid F Dealer in Hardware born Uppingham Rutland
James LANCASTER's death was registered in Newbury district in qtr Jun 1880.
Probate records show that he died on 9th May 1880 and describe him as being a general dealer.
Reading Mercury of 19th November 1870 also describes him as a Constable for the Newbury Court of Leet.
I have found it difficult to find any other record of him so I don't know when he moved to Newbury or when he married Elizabeth.
The subject of the photo is (police) Inspector Joseph DREWETT, who was brutally murdered by poachers near Hungerford, Berks in December 1876.

Therefore it is quite possible that this is a copy of an earlier photograph and one sold in large quantities after his murder. Similarly the one of P.C. Thomas SHORTER in the same album, also by James LANCASTER.
