Brickworks, Porth Wen, Anglesey

The Brickworks in Porth Wen are in a stunning and dramatic setting. Access is not easy and care is needed. Of particular interest is the harbour from which the bricks were transported and the three circular kilns. The bricks were fire bricks and used Quartzite that was mined nearby. Dates of the mining of clay and operation are a little uncertain. According to Pevsner the works were operational between “1889-1924” (Gwynedd, Buildings of Wales)
