flight of the metro birds
This dada collage was a little more challenging. I've been inspired by other Studio 26 members and how they have built cool collages. I also spent some time on google looking up pieces of classic 'dadaism'. This left me determined to try out a funky collage. Seeing how those were made, allowed me to relax about realism with rough edges on selections etc.
Now how to put it together? One scenic Hawaii, 2 NYC from the Empire State Building and 3 dog photos. It was time to make an imaginary world with the Hawaii lava rock-tide pool shot as the background. I thought an imaginary city on the beach might work well enough as the lighting and perspective were OK. Then paddle board Eva needed to join in on the water, and I tried to preserve some of her reflection. After that I added a couple more Eva's at the edges trying to blend it in so she was behind the rocky outcroppings. This left an open space in the middle, and I was completely unsure what to do with the NYC streets from above picture. As I pondered this I noticed all the Eva's were looking towards this empty space, so it needed some birds. Enter tons of frustration trying to modify a silhouette drawing of flying birds into a clipping mask (2 words I had never used together before last night) to make the birds from the NYC street shot.
End of the day it's bizarre, and completely out of the range of my normal. But, I think I like it.

EDIT - This is my final submission for the studio 26 Dada assignment. I was hesitant about the assignment, but in the end I like it because it pushed my processing and imagination in new and different ways. And, the clipping mask birds may return in the future.
