selfie with kael

Kael and I having a heart-to-heart at the board room table. OK, truth be told she was smelling my breath and I was smiling at her because her front whiskers had just been close enough to tickle. It was also the kitchen table and not a board room.

Sometimes when looking through old photos, you bump into something better than you expected. I had taken this as a 52 week shot in April 2013, and initially thought it a failure so I did nothing with the picture. I was running through old pictures the other day and thought I should play with it. Turns out I love it - maybe just because I miss my old girl, and maybe because of the surprise find that it was. Also maybe because it is pretty cool in itself.

So, end of the day I learned two things from this mini-dip into the archives. (1) look at old photos more often. (2) if planning to convert a photo to high structure black and white - try shaving first.

This is officially my second selfie on flickr, and I never would have done the first one if there was not a selfie challenge in 52 weeks in 2013. Funny thing is the first one I posted (Eva and I on the paddle board) went mini-viral on flickr, making the flickr blog in Taiwan. I also received an email from Taiwan asking if flickr could use it in an article about interesting selfies, an article which I have not yet seen.

What did I learn from that selfie with Eva? - You never know where a photo will go, and some how a selfie of a 40 year old guy on a paddle board with his dog beat out the millions of selfies by younger better looking people to be selected as an interesting one. I'm now planning to do another selfie with Bruno for his 52 week set in 2015.

Edit - this is my post for studio 26 revisit assignment. I'm calling it a second go at the processing assignment, and really love having 'refound' this photo.
