4-52 gazer beam
Eva has a serious side, and her intent stare can be pretty impressive. When she locks her eyes onto an object of interest we call it her 'gazer beam'. Although we sometimes have no idea what has caught her interest, the object of her attention in this photo was an off-lead black lab. This was taken in the park behind my house, isolating her with a 70-200 lens.
Three things I want to share about this photo and the stories behind it.
First off, this is a landmark photo for me as it's the fist time I've taken her to the park behind my house for a solo photo session. This is a great location that I've used heavily for Kael and Ollie photos, but we needed to work on Eva's listening skills before taking her there as she tends to get a little excited when other dogs are around. Although I didn't take her completely off lead, I was able to drop her leash and have her stay in the relatively desired spot, then back up 8-10 feet for these photos. What was even more impressive from my social Brit is that she didn't run off to play with the other pups walking in the park, including the poorly controlled off lead black lab. You can tell she was about to start barking her opinions by the little lip curl. Her rock star behaviour might have had something to do with my pocket full of Shreddies.
Secondly, my wife is pretty awesome. I'm working all weekend and my daily schedule has me out of the house for all daylight hours. Even though I only managed to get home for half an hour of remaining light at the end of the day, she told me to go out to the park instead of helping with the kids or dinner. Even more impressively she used the phrase "you need to go out and shoot while there's still good light".
The third thing is all of that ear hair Eva is sporting. It was getting a little windy, so it looks a little wild here. Some people have told us that Brittanies should get this hair trimmed, but I think it's pretty cool blowing in the wind. And it's even softer than it looks when you're petting her ears.
