Searoad Mersey
Searoad Mersey departs Devonport, Tasmania with break-bulk for Melbourne.
Searoad Mersey was built in 1990 by Singmarine Drydockyard and Engineering in Singapore for the Trans-Bass Strait trade. The ship was originally built with an overall length of 91.5 metres but in 1996 was lengthened to 118.80 metres. She is due for replacement in 2017 by a 181m, LPG powered ship.
The ship operates between Melbourne and Devonport and calls into Grassy, King Island once a week.
Searoad Mersey use a system of “cassettes” onto which containers and other break-bulk freight are loaded. The cassettes are towed onto and off the vessel using special tractors that are able to lift these cassettes hydraulically and position them on to the vessel.
