At this eastern Washington dairy farm, cows spend part of their time in large, outdoor corrals. They are admitted to a long, alley-like paddock (center) for feeding from an adjoining passageway (left). Manure is washed out of the paddock with an automated flush system and stored in lagoons on site for later use as fertilizer and compost
