relay switching behavior - dim lights

This video shows the relays under dim lighting. You can see the arcs more clearly.

 

I noted that the relay having the diode parallel to the coil appears to have bigger sparks.

 

The switching should oscillate at about 4 second time intervals. This video shows that the coils tends to be energised very quickly and so the dc motor cannot switch rotation directions. At times, you can see that the relay switches on and off in time intervals of about 2 seconds but when the coil is de-energised in this 2 second, the dc motor does not turn the opposite direction and it stalls instead.
