Disc Art
Making mixes is something of a bygone art these days, but I've been doing it since the 1980s, and I do it to this day. Even though I stream them as digital playlists through Bluetooth in my car these days, one of the joys of mix-making for me was always putting together some cover art, and it proved to be one of the only chances to flex my graphic design muscle, so I've continued to do it. My wife keeps copies of the burned playlists on discs in her car (mostly to humor me, I think), so they do still exist in the world.
These are some of the inserts I've made. I start with my own photography (save for a couple built around archival shots from my childhood, and a couple that are drawn), and knock them into something that feels like album art to me. These 4.75" x 9.5" files are designed to be folded in half, so the art will be in front and the tracklisting on the inside of a jewel case.
