In the ancient fertility cults of the Mediterranean, “Sos boes” wear an oxen mask, the figure of the bull, the ancient Punic- Nuragic deity, symbol of the life force. The ritual depicts the animal rebelling against its master.
The “boes” wear sheepskins with full fleece and wooden masks carved from wild pear wood called Carazzas and carry a dense cluster of cowbells, called “sas sonazzas” or “erru.”
