Coleman CQ Electrocution Blues -
Coleman made CQ lamps in several variations from 1910's to late 1920's. Millions of them. A GREAT lamp, easy to work on, easy to use.
Two electrified CQ lamps from the Leonard Johnson Auction April 6, 2019. I figured I could make one lamp out of the two after adding some other parts I had purchased there as well.
BAD IDEA. Electrification of lamps can be done with some sensitivity so as to not create permanent damage. These were not them. I had originally hoped to resolder the fount of one and use best pieces to make a decent one, but i am not sure the fount is sound with all the solder rattling around in it - so - at the end - I have usable parts:
2 globe holders and the nut to hold them on the mixing tube
2 handlesassemblies (some minor damage)
1 valve complete
1 valve wheel and needle
1 repairable single patent air tube
1 R55 generator that may or may not be any good
1 Q99 generator that is probably good
An Education - not too expensive - and certainly useful!
I will hold onto the parts, and try to find a home for the poor founts
Worst part of it all - these were so poorly done that the person who did it may have been shocked by the electricity leaking from bad wiring (no bushings through sharp edges. Appear to have had little or no use. I suspect these were bought as parts lamps
