Austrian Model 1915 Medium Flamethrower
The 50l M. 15a Flammenwerfer, a modification of the earliest model. It is distinguishable by its rounded top.
Each flamethrower was operated by a squad of four. With the introduction of larger and smaller flamethrowers in early 1916, the 50l M.15 and 15a Flammenwerfer became known as the medium flamethrower (mittlere Flammenwerfer).
As in the previous image, the lance operator wears an asbestos coat and mask.
By the summer of 1915, many infantry regiments, Kaiserjäger regiments, Feldjäger battalions, and Landwehr regiments had flamethrower detachments (Flammenwerfer-Abteilungen) of 12 men armed with two flamethrowers.
