UE-Photography - urban exploration & travel
opened tunnel
There are three different missile bases in the area, all of which were assigned to a missile regiment.
After ratification of the INF Treaty in 1988 and after demilitarization in accordance with the contract, the R12 silos lay in slumber for another 33 years. Now unofficial demolition work is taking place there with heavy equipment and the guys are (as expected) not particularly happy to meet strangers with cameras there.
Here, at one of the sub-locations, the guys were a little more relaxed than elsewhere, and so at least a few pictures were possible. However, this silo shaft was the only one that I was allowed to see and photograph.
They even kindly offered me to enter the silo via this newly created side entrance ... but they didn't want me in the central building. I declined with thanks, the guys didn't seem quite as trustworthy either.
