Parachuting in Beach Blanket Bingo
Annette Funicello jumps from elevated platform to practice PLF (parachute landing fall). There is a mattress but does show first jump courses can be rough.
Center pic has modified 28-foot TU (?), those large "holes" are intended panel cut-outs for steering control. Unlike ram-air (square) canopies they really don't steer, more like azimuth control. In reality, if a panel were to blow on parachute deployment, the canopy descent will be more stable (unlike a square parachute, any blown panels will render it malfunction that will have to be cutaway and jumper go to reserve). Obviously don't want too many blown panels on a round.
Unlike modern day square parachutes, there is no standup landings. Though back then "standup landings" are those landings which you can standup after landing when executing a proper PLF. This jumper landing very close to this X, which requires excellent spotting skills that are probably lost nowadays as all skydivers jump squares (ram-air) that offer excellent directional and forward control (and most jumpships spot from GPS).
