Wales and Edwards, trading as W + E was a well established motor engineers and garage, based at Morris House, Wyle Cop, Shrewesbury from were the the petrol engined cars were sold, and the garage was also a Wolseley agent.
They also worked reconditioning military vehicles for REME and component production for the Spitfires being built at Castle Bromwich.
Well into the 1950's milk was still being delivered on horse drawn carts, but costs were becomining uneconomical, and a decision was made to design and develope an electric delivery vehicle.
Mervyn Morris designed a battery operated electric vehicle in the Barge Garage and this evolved into a milk delivery vehicle. The first order was delivered to Roddington Dairy early in 1951.
The company moved manufacturing to Harlescott and wiring harnesses were supplied by Hartleys in Monkmoor. The vehicle were three and four wheel design and proved popular with dairies, throught Britain. The company continued to make electric vehicles in Harlescott until the late 1970`s.
