The W113 SL class Mercedes was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show and produced between 1963-71.
Under Mercedes-Benz Technical Director Fritz Nallinger, Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut and Head of Styling Friedrich Geiger. The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi, who devised its distinctive, patented, slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the "Pagoda" nickname.
All models were equipped with an inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The bonnet, boot lid, doors skins and tonneau cover were of aluminium. And the cars were built as Roadsters and Coupes.
Initially launched as a 2.3litre 230SL (1963-67) followed by the 2.5litre 250SL (1966-67 and finally the 280SL (1967-71)
The main change was the upgrade of the engine to 2778cc which produced 170bhp
