After an extensive survey and of both potential customer and the opposition Ford introduced their new van/pick up in 1957. Featyring a forward control monocoque construction for the van but based on a ladder type chassis for the pick up truck and other variants. Independant front suspension, the engine was the 1703cc petrol engine from the Consul range, with three speed gear box having synchromesh on the upper two ratios and column change. A low compression ratio was chosen for the engine developing 53bhp. A further option was the Perkins 4/99 1.6ltr diesel developing 42bhp

Updated in 1963 the petrol engine now had an improved 55bhp or premium petrol users could choose a higher compression Zephyr 4 engine of 58bhp and a four speed gear box was also available.
