Motobecane was established in France in 1923 the name being an anacronym for moto, slang for motorcycle; bécane is slang for bike. In 1981 they filed for bankruptcy and were purchased by Yamaha and reformed in 1984 as MBK

The Mobylette (sometimes shortened to Moby) is a moped model, launched in 1949, with production during the 1970's measured at around 750,000 per annum.

During the long production run there have been numerous restyles and updates
