The Kawasaki W brand were retro styled motorcycles, beginning with the Zephyr range inspired by the Z series inline-fours from the 1970s. By the late 1990s successors to the Zephyrs were based on even older generations of motorcycles with twin-cylinder engines, the V-twin engined Drifter and the vertical-twin W650. Unlike the 1960s W series, the 1999–2007 W650 had an up-to-date engine design while holding on to the vintage British motorcycle look. The 2011–2013 W800 carries on with the W brand, and expands the range to include Café racer models
The Kawasaki W800 is a parallel twin motorcycle manufactured and marketed by Kawasaki from 2011 to 2016, and then since 2019. The W800 is a retro style model that emulates the Kawasaki W series, three models that were produced from 1967 to 1975, and which in turn were based on the British BSA A7 The W800 has an air-cooled, 773 cc (47 cu in) 360° parallel-twin, fuel injected, four-stroke engine, with shaft and bevel gear driven overhead cam. The retro style includes a highly polished, gloss-painted and pinstriped fuel tank, as well as a ribbed saddle, wire wheels and a special W-logo on both sides of the tank, which refers to the W1-model
