Built as the successor to the 288GTO, between 1987-92 with the LM and GTE race car versions continuing production until 1994 and 1996 respectively, it held the title as the Worlds Fastest Street Legal Car. The F40 is so called due to its introduction coinciding with the companies 40th anniversary. The suspension set up as similar to the GTO with a double wishbone set up and the ultra low ground clearance also prompted Ferrari to develop a device to allow for the cars clearance to be raised when necessary. The body was a new design by Pininfarina featuring panels of Kevlar, carbon fibre and aluminium and drag was kept to an impressive 0.34. Weight was minimised with use of a plastic wind screen and windows, an absence of carpet and sound system and the first 50 cars had only sliding windows although later models windows could be lowered.

This car had been serving as brand ambassador for PADDLUP, a classic car investment company During that time, the F40 has attended numerous events developing the PADDLUP brand. Sold after several years, when the company had an offer they could not refuse. During this time the Ferrari has gone from its classic Ferrari red colour, to grey and bearing the PADDLUP logo. When Paddlups Joe Priday acquired the F40 it was described as looking used and definitely not concourse thanks to Joe and PaddlUp CEO Tim Mayneord, the F40 found a new lease of life. It was wrapped in the brand colours – initially to mixed reviews from those who saw it and began causing quite a stir. When it came to the wrap itself there was only one man for the job, Yiannimize was enlisted in April 2021 and by June of that year, they were ready to launch the PaddlUp
