The Ford Capri is a fastback coupé built by Ford of Europe and designed by Philip T. Clark, who had been involved in the design of the Ford Mustang.[1] It used the mechanical components from the Mk2 Ford Cortina and was intended as the European equivalent of the Ford Mustang.
FROM NOTES AND RESEARCH DONE BY OWNER DENNIS MARTIN
The Ford Capri RS 3100 was built as a homologation special, at Haiewood, Merseyside by Ford Advanced Operations (AVO), with production limited to 249 examples, and later around 100 built up as racing cars. Originally the minimum run requirement was set at 500 units, but this was cut short by the 1973 Arab-Isreal war leading to an oil crisis and a massive increase in the costs of fuel forcing a halt to production of what was considered at the time to be a Gas Guzzler. Of the 249 car built, 50 were exported to Australia and 50 to South Africa, the rest being sold on the home market.
The RS3100 is based on the Ford Capri 3000GT with the engine over bored to 3093cc, the cylinder heads hand gas flowed by polishing the ports, and a higher compression ratio, producing 148bhp. Front brakes were modified to vented discs, although drum braking remained at the rear. Suspension was significantly stiffened and the cars rode on 6 inch magnesium wheels. Headlamps were changed from the rectangular units of the 3000GT to round halogen units as used on the German RS2600, and the full bumper, replaced by two quarter bumpers with integral indicators, and a Duck Tail rear spoiler fitted on the boot lid.
This car is the 241st of the line and is one of only nine finished in this colour (Stardust)
