Produced by Iconic Autobody, Weights Farm, Redditch, in limited numbers the 986 and later 987 Speedster, is heralded as the ideal fusion of modern driving experience and retro styling. The car is based on a 987 Porsche Boxster and evokes the styling of a Porsche 356 Speedster. Reports suggest that the panel fit and finish are of a high quality. Much of the Boxsters interior remains, though there is a period correct combination of brown leather and retro styled fabric. And thanks to the Boxster chassis it remains very much a drivers car.
The car rides on 17 inch Fuchs wheels, Side air intakes concealed door handles, chrome fuel flap, aluminium door mirrors and leather bonnet straps are all neat details, as are the LED headlamps and spot lights. It is not cheap however, the list price in 2020 was around £ 70,000 but if you think, this is a lot of money for a replica, just remember that the original 356 Speedster is slower, doesn’t drive as well, and is less usable, for nearly $1.0 million.
