Standards utility model and rival for the Austin A30, Morris Minor. Launched in 1953 the Standard Eight and Ten were designed by Vic Hammond as an entirely new car. The Eight was only offered as a four door Saloon, powered by a new OHV engine of 803cc and an output of 26bhp, which was down on the outgoing side valve unit, but was increased in 1957 to 30bhp. Drive was delivered via a four speed gearbox, with synchromesh on the top three ratios, with an option of overdrive from March 1957.

The bodies were of unitary construction, with coil independant front suspension and hypoid rear. Early ones have minimal trim, sliding windows and internal access to the boot. Winding windows on the Deluxe from 1954, and the rest from May 1955. Better equipped Super from 1956 and the triple overdrive Gold Star from 1957

STARTER MOTOR, Bicester

This cars overall condition is explained by the Starter Motor legend on the front door. Starter Motor is a Bicester based charitable company, aimed at giving youngsters the neccessary skills to develope a carreer within the world of classic motoring. The mantra reads - The charity believes our old-car world provides a haven in the digital age, offering enjoyment, adventure and community. It's a place to belong; a place where friendship, common interest and mechanical fun are self evident; where things are repaired and not thrown away. The cars are donated by their owners and hopefully this Standard will be brought back its best by the young aspiring mechanics and their mentors
