Billy was a Liverpool born British and International pop star and remained active as a songwriter until his untimely death in the 1980's. Billy's fame predated the Beatles. He equalled the Beatles record of having 24 hits in the 1960's and spent 332 weeks in the UK charts.

He had contracted rheumatic fever as a child which had damaged his heart and contributed to his early passing.

This bronze statue was sculpted by Tom Murphy a Liverpool sculpture in 2003 and was donated by The Sound of Fury fan club to the National Museum of Liverpool Life. Which is currently undergoing construction, so statue at present stands near Pier Head in Liverpool's Albert Dock a place Billy would have known well.
