The Silver Dawn was introduced in 1949, as the sister car to the Bentley Mk.IV until 1952 and thereafter the Bentley R type, Rolls Royces had a detuned engine and U bonnet radiator.and Stromberg carburettor until 1951. Thereafter Zenith carburettor and a larger bore 4566cc engine Produced at the Crewe works the Silver Dawn was the first Rolls-Royce car to be offered with a factory built body

All cars until 1952 were export only mostly LHD models with column geasrshift, the few RHD cars had floor change. Most bodies were Rolls Royce Standard Steel, with very few coachbuilt.

From 1952 the Silver Dawn was made available in the UK, almost invariably with the Hydromatic box, standardised during 1953, The suspension was independent at the front using coil springs; at the rear the live axle used half elliptic leaf springs. Servo assisted 12.25" drum brakes were hydraulically operated at the front but retained mechanical operation at the rear.

 

This was originally supplied by London agent Jack Barclays to Mr. C.G.Wade in Aldershot on 23rd February 1955. Specified with automatic transmission. It was offered for auction sale by H + H Auctions at their Brooklands sale of May 2011, with a then low recorded mileage of just 13,210 miles, and selling for £ 26,600
