The GT4 version is tailored to run in European GT4, the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and the Pirelli World Challenge. The sixth generation Mustang was styled by Kermel Curic (Exterior) and Sewan Chun and Michael Thompson (Interior), and unveiled at a number of private Ford corporate events on December 5, 2013 and commenced series production at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant on July 14, 2014. It is the first generation to be marketed and sold globally, and represented the first time that factory right hand drive Mustangs were produced in addition to the left hand drive models. codenamed "S550," began in 2009 under chief engineer Dave Pericak and (from late-2009) exterior design director Joel Piaskowski, shortly after the updated 2010 model year Mustang went on sale. In December 2010, an exterior design theme proposal by Kemal Curic from Ford's Cologne, Germany design studios was selected by design management.

Three engines are available: a standard aluminum 3.7 L "Cyclone" V6 300 hp, an optional 2.3 L EcoBoost turbocharged with direct injected I4 310 hp, or a 5.0 L "Coyote" V8 435 hp. With the 5.2 litre Voodoo V8 intwo differing states of tune, GT and Cobra models

The sixth generation Mustang was refreshed for the 2018 model year dropping the base V6 model and its 300 hp (224 kW) 3.7L Cyclone V6 engine, leaving the EcoBoost, the GT, the Shelby GT350 and the Shelby GT350R. The new Mustang sports a mildly restyled front clip and dashboard design, and new standard and optional wheels.
