This one of custom body .. with Storage space taking up the Back seats, and fold-away roof , was built specifically to transport kites. The brief was to transform the car into a long distance high speed cruiser to commute to the beach from London, with enough stowage space for the owners surfboards and kites. It was created over 10 years ago

 

The CX was designed by auto stylist Robert Opron, Mechanically, the car was one of the most modern of its time, combining Citroën's unique hydro-pneumatic integral self-leveling suspension, speed-adjustable DIRAVI power steering (first introduced on the Citroën SM), and a unique interior design that did away with steering column stalks, allowing the driver to reach all controls with his or her hands on the steering wheel. The suspension was attached to sub frames that were fitted to the body through flexible mountings, improving ride quality and reducing road noise

 

The CX had a tranversly mounted engine.

 

The introduction of the 2.5 litre Turbo Diesel engine in 1983 made it the fastest diesel powered saloon in the world with a top speed of 121mph.
