The fifth generation Jeep Cherokee (KL) is a five door compact crossover SUV, designed by Greg Howell and introduced at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, with sales beginning in November 2013 for the 2014 model year. The Cherokee is the first Jeep vehicle to use the Fiat Compact/Compact Wide platform, co-developed by Chrysler and Fiat and it was originally assembled at the Toledo, Ohio Complex until 2017 when production swithed to Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois

 

The KL Cherokee is 5.1 inches longer than the outgoing XJ Cherokee with a wheelbase of 106 inches, occupying a position between the smaller Compass and the larger Grand Cherokee in Jeep's global lineup. . The Jeep Cherokee can be equipped with three different four-wheel drive systems: Active Drive I, Active Drive II, and Active Drive Lock. All of these systems come with Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction control system and rear-axle disconnect feature. And comes in four trim levels, the Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk and Limited, with spin off special editions.

 

In 2019 the Cherokee had a mid-cycle facelift, front grille on the Cherokee has been moved down slightly to allow for larger front headlamps with LED daytime running lamps (DRL's), and the turn signals are now integrated into the front headlamps. All trim levels of the new Cherokee receive new wheel designs

 

The Limited the top-of-the-line model, and adds bright-finished alloy wheels, and leather seating surfaces. It comes in both 4x2 and 4x4. It also adds the U Connect ACCESS 8.4A touch-screen infotainment system, heated dual front seats, and Keyless Go with push-button and remote starter systems.

In February 2021, Chuck Hoskin, Jr., principal chief of the Cherokee Nation called for Jeep to change the name of the vehicle
