Hans-Joachim Stuck ws born 1 January 1951, the son of three times former European Hillclimb Champion and defacto 1934 European Drivers Champion (although in that year the Trophy was not awarded)
His first competitive race was at the Nurburgring in 1969. The following year and still only 19 he won his first 24 hours race at the wheel of a BMW 2002ti. at the same circuit a fete he repeated in 1998 and 2004. In 1972 he shared a drivein a Ford Capri RS2600 with Jochen Mass winning the Spa 24 hour and for 1974, 1975 drove a BMW 3.0 CSL "Batmobile" in the DRM as well as partnering Ronnie Peterson in the USA. Later in the 1970s he raced thefire breathing turbo-charged BMW 320i.
After a speel in Formula 3 he made his Formula 1 debut with March in 1974, going on to race in 81 Grand Prix. However his F1 career was hindered by his height (6 feet 4 inches) particularly in the late 1970s when changing race car design moved the cockpit further forwards.
Stuck continued racing touring and sports cars all over the world, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice with a Porsche 962, in the 1990s he raced in the DTM with BMW, returning to Porsche until the 1998 Le Mans race.and in 2005 raced in the inaugral season of the Grand Prix Masters
From 2008 he took up a roll with VAG Motorsport division a role which has seen him help develope some of the Group new cars as well as being an ambassador for the brand.
It was in this role he appeared at Shelsey Walsh driving some of Audi Tradition cars, including the mighty C Type Auto Union a car that his father had challenged the hill in 1936, to add to that very special occassion he brought with himand drove the C type his Fathers old leather helmet
