The Austin A30 was launched at the 1851 Earls Court Motorshw as a small family car and produced from May 1952.Launched as the New Austin Sevenit undercut its main competitor being the Morris Minor, costing £507 at launch £62 less than the Morris.
Styled in house by designer Ricardo 'Dick' Burzi. with body structure designed by T.K. Garrett, who had been an aeronautical engineer before joining Austin. It was of fully stressed monocoque chassis-less construction,[ making it lighter and stiffer than most of its competition and, the first Austin to be made in this way
Power came from a 803cc BMC A Series engine coupled to a four speed manual transmission
Initially available as a four seater 4 door Saloon, with a 2 door Saloon from late 1954 and a van and van-based "Countryman" estate joining the range in 1954
The A40 was replaced in 1956 by the simular looking but updated Austin A35
Many thanks for a Supersonic
