The third variety, and the most successful of the Rallye Sport (RS) Escort Mk.II. Powered by a Ford Pinto engine of 110bhp and with around a 110mph top speed. Featuring a distinctive plastic wedge nose and cast alloy wheels.

There were two variants of the Mk.II RS2000 from late 1978 a cheaper version on steel wheels to take over from the Mexico and the Custom with more upmarket furnishings.
