The first Regal a passenger var appeared in 1952. The most significant advance came in 1962 with the Regal 3/25 introduced with a monocoque construction made entirely of glass fibre and a new Reliant 600cc later updated to 700cc in August 1968. it is the van version, the Supervan III that was immortalised by Del Boy in the long running TV comedy Only Fools and Horses.

When the Morris Minor van was reaching the end of production the Royal Mail investigated a number of likely replacements for its delivery fleet. In 1970 50 Supervan III's entered service on trial basis, although the model was not finally selected
