The Capri Mk.I was launched at the 1969 Brussels Motor Show with the intention of replicating the success Ford (USA) had enjoyed with their Mustang. Mechanically based on the contemporary Cortina/Taunus and built at Hailwood (UK), Genk (Belgium) and Cologne (Germany) with the continental built cars using the V4 Taunus engine in 1,3, 1,5 and 1,7ltr versions and the UK built cars S4 Ford Kent 1.3 and 1,6 versions. With the top of the range engines being a Cologne V6 or Essex V4 2 litre engines.

In September 1969 a 3000GT was launched in the UK with a 138bhp V6 Essex followed in 1970 by the 3000E with more luxurious trim

Ford revised the Capri in late 1972 as the Mark 1 Facelift, It received new and more comfortable suspension, enlarged tail-lights, larger headlamps with separate indicators were also fitted,] with quad headlamps now featured on the 3000GXL model. The Kent engines were replaced by the Ford Pinto engine and the previously UK-only 3000 GT joined the German line-up. In the UK the 2.0 L V4 remained in use.

Many thanks for a fantabulous
