The Spark-Renault SRT_01E is an electric formula race car designed for the inaugural season of Formula E, in 2014–15. The car is the result of a 10-month collaboration between Spark Racing Technology, McLaren Electronic Systems, Williams Advanced Engineering, Dallara and Renault. The car was used until the end of Formula E's fourth season in 2018, after which it was replaced by the SRT05e
Designed by Frédéric Vasseur with the electric motor, transmission and electronics for Formula E supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems The Formula E organisation ordered 42 cars from Spark Racing Technology partnered by chassis designer Dallara.The battery design was in the hands of Williams Advanced Engineering, part of the Williams Group to which the Formula One team belongs.The electric motor is built by McLaren Electronic Technologies. The motor weighs 26 kg and produces a maximum of 270 bhp
The car measures, 197 ins in length, 71 inches width is 43 inches high with a track width of 51 inches and a ride height of 3 inches. Maximum power is 268hp, which equates to 228hp in race mode (power saving) with a regulated 40hp fan boost
The Eurovision Virgin Racing Team the 2014-15 season with a podium 3rd place finish for Sam Bird in the season opener in Beijing, Bird went on to win the second round in Putrajaya, Malaysia, mid season results were sketchy withBirdsa 4th place at the seventh round in Monaco being a highlight before he won in the final round in London.
Alguersuaris season was less fruiful with a 4th in Buenos Aires being the only highlight, He was replaced after the ninth round in Moscow, by Swiss driver Fabio Leimar who contested the final two rounds in London without showing any improvement.
At the close of the season the Eurovision Virgin racing team were fifth with 133 points, 103 won by Bird who finished fifth in the drivers Championship behind Champion Nelson Piquet Junior.
For the 2015-16 season the team went with a Spark-Citroen powertrain, Sam Bird was partnered with Frenchman Jean Eric Vergne. Bird was less prolific than in the previous season with two podium finishes, a 2nd in Putrajaya in the second round and a win in the fourth round in Buenos Aires.
Vergne also scored to podium finishes, with a 2nd in the eigth round in Paris, and a 3rd in the 9th round in London.
The team improved on the previous seasons points tally with 144 points, in what was a shorter season, finishing 3rd behind the seasons winners Renault eDams.
In the drivers Championship Sam Bird finished 4th on 88 points, with Vergne 9th on 56, the Champion driver Sebastian Buemi of Renault eDams scored 155 points
