The first generation Thunbird (1955-57) was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 1954, going on sale as a 1955 model in October 1954 during its first two years it sold 31786 units. For 1957 the car was drastically restyled the front bumper was reshaped, the grille and the tailfins were larger and larger tail lights fitted. The spare wheel returned inside the boot and the Thunderbird logo moved from the tailto the wing. The normal engines were 0f 292 Ci and 312 Ci with an uprated 312 available, Sales for 1957 up until April 1958 were 21380 the first generations best sales year, in all 53166 first series engines were sold
