The Vallelunga was based on a roadster designed by Carrozzeria Fissore and named after the Autodromo di Vallelunga first shown as a concept car at the Turin Motor Show in 1963 which De Tomaso had hoped to sell the design of the concept to another company, but without a client De Tomase decided to go ahead and had the car built by Ghia.
The Vallelunga was powered by a 104bhp a 1.5 L straight-4 Kent engine from the Ford Cortina mated to a Hewland gear set. The chassis was a pressed steel backbone with a tubular subframe at the rear and suspensiion was double wishbone and coil springs at all four corners. The small car was bodied with a fiberglass body and many drilled aluminium parts.[and brakes were disc all round.
Dean Martin purchased a red Valleluga for his sons 16th birthday present, which was destroyed by Riccis brother in a road accident a couple of months later, his mother managed to locate (no internet at the time) a replacemant in a Milan showroom and had the car airfreighted to California a few years later Ricci sold the car replacing it with a Mangusta the Vallelugas successor
