The LC2 were built between (1983-86) to contest the World Sportscar Championships under Group C regulations.

Powered by a Ferrari 308C engine, reduced in capacity to 2.6 litres and using two KKK Turbochargers initially connected to a Hewland five-speed manual gearbox, which was replaced by an Abarth-cased unit in 1984.

The car was faster and more powerful thanits main Porsche rival repeatedly claiming pole position on the grid but was hampered by an inferior fuel economy.

The LC2 made its racing debut in 1983 being run under the Martini Racing name and painted in the Martini & Rossi colors, as well as initially using Italian Pirelli radial tyres. Debuting at their home event the Monza 1000km taking pole by more than a second from the Porsche 956 but the lead car was afflicted by tyre probles and the second car finished twelve laps behind the leading 956. Tyre problems haunted the LC2 all season even after switching suppliers from Pirelli to Dulop. and neither car was even to finish another race until the fifth round at Spa. At the end of the season the team choose not to compete in Japan, instead contesting the European Endurance event at Imola were the car had its first win in the hands of Teo Fabi and Hans Heyer, though there was no Porsche oposition. Lancia finished off the season with back-to-back second place finishes at Mugello and Kyalami.

For 1984 the cars had redesigned suspension, to suit the Dunlop tyres. The season opened with podium finishes at Monza and Silverstone. At Le Mans both cars qualified on the front row and led the race until gearbox problems though Bob Wollek and Alessandro Nannini managed to complete the race. Deciding to miss the Brands Hatch race to prepare for Imola were they were both eliminated by accident. Again missing Fuiji returning for a 1-2 finish at Kyalami but again with the absence of most of the leading Porsche teams.

The car were further revised for 1985 and now on Michelin rubber. Once more a series of pole positions were lost due to reliabilty issues. The teams only victory coming at Spa where the race was stopped early following Stefan Bellof's fatal accident. In the next race at Brands Hatch the Lancia's were running 1-2 and looking like victory when they collided with each other and finished 3-4.

In 1986 the team was reduced to a one car effort but following the arrival of the updated Porsche 962 Lancia pulled out of WSC.

Privateer efforts continued until 1991 chiefly with the Gianni Mussato built cars.
