The Morris-Commercial J Type Van was introduced as a 10cwt van by Morris-Commercial then a subsidiary of Morris Motors in 1948. The Commercial part of the name being dropped after the formation of BMC in 1952. The van followed the modern trend of forward control and sliding door, and came in both RHD and LHD. Morris produced the van but also supplied chassis to external body makers for completion as pick up trucks, tipper trucks, ice cream vans and milk floats.

As a youngster i always waited for the daily visit of a red ice cream van of Rosa's, Cannock. and one of my corgi cars was a two tone blue Capstan Cigarette van (nanny state was not invented then)

The J type was originally powered by a 1476cc four cylinder side valve engine and a three speed gearbox

Updated in 1957 as the JB when the BMC B series 1489cc OHV engine and a four speed gearbox were fitted

The Austin 101 van of 1957 differed only in different badges and radiator grille
