The Mark 1 Escort was introduced in 1968, as a small family car, to replace the 105E, 123E Anglia. It was roomier but with a more bland appearance than its predecessor. The car made its debut at the 1968 Brussells Motor Show. Escort production commenced at Halewood in England during the closing months of 1967, and for left hand drive markets during September 1968 at the Ford plant in Genk with, at first, slightly different configuration. Available with 1098 and 1298cc engines in standard trim with the more sporty models, the GT having a tuned 1298cc unit, the Twin Cam a 1558cc twin cam Lotus, the RS1600 a 16v Cosworth BDA, and the Mexico a 1599cc Kent engine. Escorts served with distintion in both rallying and on the track as well as topping the British sales charts.

The panel van appeared from 1968

The Elbe camper is an unusual conversion from Dormobile with a raised top and cover which utilises the tailgate
