Introduced in 1957 to replace the highly successful Austin A30, its name reflecting the more powerful 34bhp BMC A series engine.

Simular in appearance to the earlier car, the A35 differed by having a larger rear window, painted grille with a chrome horse shoe surround, The semaphore turn-signal indicators were replaced with present-day front- and rear-mounted flashing lights.

The gearbox had an easier action change, and improved gear ratios.

Like the A30, the A35 was offered as a two- or four-door saloon or two-door "Countryman" estate and also as a van which continued in production to 1968, and rare coupe utility (pickup) version was also produced in 1956, with just 475 sold

A 2 door Deluxe saloon was tested in Motor magazine in 1956, recording a top speed of 71.9mph and a touring fuel economy of 41.5 mpg.
