Christ Church Logo
The Christ Church Logo as created by Steve Lording in 2004.
ABOUT THE BRAND
I can't really help explain the process that created it as I wasn't part of it but from my experience of applying it for the past year I've been astounded with how well it works. It works in all media very well. The fish / greek letter element is quite versatile and we use it all over the place, in backgrounds as a pattern and more. It quickly identifies our church and communicates a lot about our community. The font for the text is Adobe Garamond and we use Garamond Premier Pro on all our work.
We purchased our own vinyl cutter (sign making machine) last year (it was one of our best purchases!) and the logo has been fantastic for how it works no matter how big or small we make it. Being natively vector based has made it great to work with too.
We've chosen to embed the 3 Colours of Ministry into the branding and the logo can appear in primary Red, Green and Blue, with the text always in Gray. We've also colour coded building signage on site within these colours to improve navigation.
ABOUT THE CHURCH
Christ Church is an Anglican Church located in Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia.
The Diocese planted 50 people plus a new vicar, Mark Leach into a dwindling and aging community in early 2004. We've since grown to a community of 300 regular punters. Much of our church is aged 25-35 and 40-92 with the number of kids growing all the time. We have 3 services of different flavour, Traditional Holy Communion 9am, Family 10.30am and Young Adults at 6pm.
The church is based in a wealthy area of Melbourne and most of our community are active professional or professional students. It does give the church a different flavour and requires a special approach to ministry.
Whilst being traditional we've spent a lot of time looking at our structures and organisation. We use the Natural Church Development system to understand our growth and have a small groups / pastorates model for pastoral care. Our primary ministries are Alpha and Kids.
The church is based on 2 acre site features a heritage bluestone church built in 1853 and 3 additional buildings that facilitate our ministries. We also have a close relationship with the adjoining primary school, thus our focus on Kids min.
