SIALKOT, May 19: - The second annual death anniversary of Prof. Asghar Saudai (a forgotten national asset ) was held at Sialkot here today. Special Quran Khawani was held at Saudai Manzil Karimpura Sialkot , in which the hundreds of the people from all walks of life including educationists, notable poets, retired and serving bureaucrats, politicians, students and his pupils)participated. They paid rich tributes to Prof. Saudai for his meritorious service to Pakistan Movement, education and literature. They also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and the grieved family may bear this loss with fortitude.

 

Prof. Asghar Saudai (83) had been a prominent activist of Pakistan Movement and creator of Na’ara Pakistan “Pakistan Ka Matlab Kia?” besides; he served as the director education, senior economist and poet. He died of cardiac arrest in May 19, 2008 in Sialkot.

 

A condolence reference was held at Anwar Club Auditorium Sialkot her today, in which the speakers paid rich tributes to Prof. Asghar Saudai. While delivering his speech , the PML-N MPA Engineer Imran Ashraf said that the Naara-e-Pakistan “Pakistan Ka Matlab Kia ?, La Illaha Il-Allah” has now become the recognition of Prof. Asghar Saudai , who is also the son of soil of Sialkot , after the great poets Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmad Faiz.

 

On this occasion, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema revealed that the fame of this “Naara” could be guessed from this that every children in Pakistan and every person is often found saying “Pakistan ka Matlab Kia?, La Illaha Il-Allah”. RPO added that Prof. Asghar Saudai was a roaming encyclopedia of Pakistan Movement, who also played his front line pivotal role in Pakistan Movement. He had also been the very close associate of Father of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

 

Meanwhile, expressing grave concern over the sad demise of Prof. Saudai, the local social, educational and literary circles have described Prof. Asghar Saudai as a unique asset of Sialkot and also of Pakistan as well. He remained a victim of the height of negligence and apathy of the concerned government functionaries, as the Government of Pakistan has not yet awarded him “The Pride of Performance Award” to him following his meritorious services during the Pakistan Movement for Pakistan, Islam, education and national literature. They said that the Prof. Asghar Saudai (even after the two years of his death) still remains a victim of government apathy, in this regard.

 

They said that Prof. Asghar Saudai was fully deserved for Pride of Performance Award by the Government of Pakistan. They said that they were astonished that why the Government has not yet awarded him this award.

 

In his last interview (before his death two years ago), Prof. Asghar Saudai had said that he wrote his poem “Pakistan ka Matlub Kia?” during his college education to minimize the anti Islam and anti Pakistan propaganda promoted by his Hindu and Sikh class fellows and teachers. He said that this poem later became very popular among the Muslims and also became the voice of every Muslim, which also minimized the anti Islam and anti Pakistan propaganda by the Non- Muslims. He said that this poem has also paved the way of Pakistan Movement by reflecting the sentiments of every Muslim.

 

Prof. Asghar Saudai was of the view that the soil of Sialkot became invincible by giving birth to the Allama Iqbal (the great poet philosopher of the East, who ensilaged the idea of Pakistan). He said that there had been a dire need to do a lot for the promotion of the Allama Iqbal’s vision , but, sorry to say that no government has yet done nothing in practical in this regard.

 

In his last interview, Prof Asghar Saudai had also expressed grave concern over the miserable condition of dilapidating Iqbal Manzil (the birth place of Allama

Iqbal) in Sialkot. He urged the government to also honour its years-old commitment regarding the early establishment of an advanced research centre at Iqbal Manzil, besides, saving this dilapidating national heritage from collapsing. Prof. Asghar Saudai also urged the government to establish the direly needed “Aiwan-e-Iqbal” at Sialkot, besides, issuing the Ph.D

research classes on Iqbaliyat for the local, national and foreign research scholars at more than one century old Govt. Murray College Sialkot (the alma mater of Allama Iqbal)…#
