Donated by: Ali Özsoy, managing director of “Lebenswelt” (non-profit limited liability company for the promotion of family, youth, work and health), his comment:

“For me, ’time’ means trying to keep up with the times, living at the height of the times, doing everything at the same time, everything in its own time, a sense of time. People have different perceptions of time, which can lead to intercultural conflicts.”

Personal background of Ali Özsoy:

The company established in 1999 with the managing directors Ali Özsoy and Mehmet Asci offers social services for all the family and organizes the deployment of social and childcare workers. Its ethnic minority target groups receive counselling and support in 40 languages.

Ali’s and Mehmet’s business idea had originally concerned the provision and further development of “educational assistance” services in their neighbourhood. Following demand and market analyses, as well as some additional educational training of their own, they then established the company, initially operating it from their homes. They steered clear of borrowing, but took some professional advice. By now their company employs approximately 200 people.

Background: Ali Özsoy followed his parents to Germany at the age of 18 and immediately started learning German. Aged 19 he was already earning his own money as a translator and got involved with integration projects. His training as a childcare worker was followed by a degree course in social work, as well as a family therapy training course, undertaken in tandem with work.
