Lackawanna RR Tongs
This large, heavy duty item is an artifact from the Lackawanna RR. You can see "DL&W" imprinted on the top tong.
My assumption is that this article was either a tool to move wooden railroad ties with or a device employed in moving ice in The Lackawanna RR Ice Houses, located in Western NJ, or for moving ice blocks in the the rr's ice boxes or refrigerator cars.
At any rate, it is an interesting item, and if any one could shed any light on its actual use, please let me know...thanks!
