Caddisfly (Trichoptera)

One morning I came upon this very pretty insect which was resting on a milkweed leaf. Having never seen one before, I had to do a bit of research. I learned that it's called a Caddisfly and that there are 1,340 species of Caddisflies in North America. They are aquatic insects and spend most of their life as larvae which live in cool, flowing water. Adults such as this are terrestrial and they tend to be most active at night, hiding in cool, moist habitats during the daytime. Adult caddisflies can only feed on liquids, since they do not have well-developed mouthparts. They feed only on plant fluids, such as nectar, or may not feed at all.

Info is from Ecospark.ca

The next day I found one with its wings open and I sure wanted to get a photo of it, but alas, it flew off in a nanosecond.

Thank you for your views and comments, much appreciated. Have a great day!
