A very rare native orchid: Western prairie fringed orchid (Platanthera praeclara)

Hello Everyone,

For Earth Day, I wanted to post an image of a rare native orchid. The habitat of the Western prairie fringed orchid is Tall-Grass Prairie. As many of you are probably aware, this habitat has dramatically decreased over the years in North Amerca. In Canada, this lovely wildflower is found only at the southeast tip of Manitoba with most of the specimens within the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. It is considered endangered In Canada (SARA) and Manitoba (MBES&EA). I was very fortunate to be able to see and photograph these lovely orchids a few years ago.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and for leaving a comment. I do love hearing from you.

Have a wonderful day!
