Fox Sparrow - Passerella iliaca
Hi Everyone!
Fox Sparrows are fun to watch because they crouch low and hop/scratch to forage for seeds or insects. Sometimes you won't see the bird, but you'll see a pile of leaf litter move. It might be the Fox Sparrow in there, scratching away! I have seen them dig through an inch of frozen ground in attempts to find food.
This is the Eastern species which is more brick red than those found in the Northwest.
